Masoud Barzani insists on remaining as the president even though his term of office expired on 20 August 2015. On the other hand, Gorran and PUK defend that a new president should be selected and this should be done with referendum. This situation led the political process to a dead end. This political crisis caused serious incidents to break out in Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
