Meeting with the delagation from the Islam Universty

A delegation of 4 people from Baghdad Islamic University paid a visit to ORSAM on December 22, 2010. Besides the ORSAM President Hasan Kanbolat, ORSAM’s Adviser and Expert Staff were present in the meeting. In the delegation of Islamic University, there were Faculty of Usuliddin Dr. Ziya Muhammed Mahmut who presided the delegation, Faculty of Law Head of the Department of Islamic Law Dr. Ziya Ubeyd El Zevbai, Faculty of Education for Women Head of the History Department Dr. Raid Yusuf Cihad and Faculty of Literature Department of Arabic Language and Literature Academician Dr. Yusuf Halaf.

While taking information about the Baghdad Islamic University, ORSAM was introduced to the Iraqi academicians. In the meeting where potential cooperation areas between Islamic University and ORSAM were considered, the current Iraqi issues were also discussed. Stating that their aim of coming to Turkey was to carry out common works with the Non-Governmental Organizations, universities and research centers in Turkey, the Delegation Head Ziya Muhammed Mahmut said that the Rector of the Baghdad Islamic University Prof. Dr. Ziyat Mahmut Reşit El-Ani, who received education in the field of Islamic Law, had encouraged and supported them about this visit. Indicating that the university is shown by UNESCO among the high level universities by virtue of the studies carried out in the university, Dr. Ziya told that the Baghdad Islamic University had been founded in 1979 in the name of “Islamic Science Saddam University” and added that the university which is an official university of Iraq, have the Faculties of Theology, Communication, History, Law, Literature, Science and Education (separately both for women and men), along with some research centers. Dr. Ziya continued his speech about the university as the following: “These research centers are MEBDE (Islamic Research Center), the Manuscripts Research Center, Strategic Research Center and Press Department. In this Press Department, the theses and the books of the students and the academicians are published. Additionally, the university has an ancient and big library that has a number of manuscript documents and books. The main aim of these research centers is to carry out some studies in order to develop the human rights and personal competences and for a progress also in the social areas. In this context, symposiums, panels and conferences are organized on the purpose of encouraging a moderate life. The university has an advanced communication and Internet network. In this university, 3.000 students are educated and provide a two-cycle education.”

Underlining that they want to examine especially the Ottoman manuscript documents in Turkey, Iraqi academicians said that there are also a lot of Ottoman Manuscript documents in Iraq that can be read by some Iraqi academicians and it is important to reveal these documents.

The Iraqi academicians said that the Turkish people have always been loved by the Iraqi society since the Seljuks and that the two societies have common aspects. Indicating that they would like to benefit from the experiences of Turkey, the Iraqi academicians said that on this purpose some common studies can be carried out to examine the documents from the Ottoman Empire. And the ORSAM President Hasan Kanbolat stated that they are always welcome to ORSAM and ORSAM is always ready to cooperate and support them about every subject to the best of their possibilities.
